Collision cuts power to Wainui, Kaiti to Wainui, parts of Kaiti

Residents in Wainui, Tamarau and parts of Kaiti were without power for a short time this morning after a vehicle collided with a power pole.

The incident happened on Wairere Road around 9.30am.

Eastland Network reported 90 percent of customers affected had their power back on within 40 minutes, with around 100 homes around the Wairere and Murphy Road area still waiting.

Wainui Beach School on Wairere Road was affected as it relies on power for its pumps and water supply.

Eastland Network thanked customers for their patience as their teams checked switchboards for damage, and did any necessary repairs before re-livening the lines.

It was expected the remaining customers would have power restored by noon.
