Age Concern Tairawhiti volunteer Kath Allen is described as an extraordinary volunteer among many.

So it was no surprise when she was recognised with a national Age Concern award for her efforts working with the elderly.

“She gives of herself constantly to serve those who need company,” said Age Concern Tairawhiti chief executive Frances Toroa.

“She manages to see on a weekly basis 11 older people in their homes — that is mega-volunteering.”

Kath manicures and pedicures those she visits, leaving them uplifted.

She truly exemplifies people passion and deserves the award.” Mrs Toroa said

“Kath abounds with energy and this is just the volunteering we know about.

“She also works with people from the Gisborne Blind Foundation, helping them to socialise at various concerts held in Gisborne.

“She will help with anything to keep the cost down or make a contribution herself.”
