A police patrol car was rammed twice during an attempt to pull a vehicle over in the Te Hapara area of Gisborne yesterday afternoon.

The police officer escaped injury but his vehicle sustained substantial damage to its front.

It had to be transported away from the scene (pictured above).

The incident happened at the Aberdeen Road-Stanley Road intersection at about 2.30pm.

“Supporting officers initiated a pursuit into the Ormond Road area when the fleeing driver again tried unsuccessfully twice to ram a police vehicle.” said Senior Sergeant Steve Sutherland.

“At that point the pursuit was abandoned.”

Police are looking for a white Toyota Hilux ute, registration number FDN 859, driven by a male.

“We want to hear from anyone who may know who was driving that vehicle yesterday afternoon.”
