Alarm activation led to evacuation

STUDENTS and staff at Gisborne Girls’ High School were evacuated out on to the sports field by Gladstone Road early yesterday afternoon after a fire alarm activation in the school.

Fire and Emergency NZ responded with two appliances to the incident at around 1.20pm.

“An alarm was set off outside a classroom.The school was evacuated while we checked the situation out,” a senior firefighter said.

“It turned out the alarm was activated maliciously by one of the students.”
