Got my orange crush

East Coast Auto Wreckers owner Richard Newman (pictured) has breathed a sigh of relief lately as the car crusher unit he has waited seven months for finally arrived and started work.

Mr Newman’s business in Stanley Road has been the subject of periodic complaint from neighbours and passers-by as people dumped unwanted cars and whiteware on the road side outside the premises.

Mr Newman said a lack of space inside the yard made it difficult, at times impossible, for the yard to store more vehicles.

“I’m hugely relieved to have the crusher here now and it will create a lot of space. Mind you, it will fill up again pretty quickly.”

The crusher has been in his yard for a couple of weeks on and off and was back there yesterday.

“So far it has crushed 400 cars and we hope to get another 60 done. The bales the cars get crushed into have been progressively trucked out of the district for processing.”
