Rain welcomed by farmers, croppers

The region’s rainfall stocks have been boosted over the past week with most areas in the district getting significant falls to further ease concerns of farmers and croppers.

Last month, they had been watching the weather closely as the comparatively dry winter neared an end, but in the final few days of last month most areas received rainfall of 25 millimetres or more.

Further recent rain improved the situation further.

Gisborne District Council rainfall gauges across Tairawhiti show almost everywhere received another 25-to-30-millimetres-plus in the past seven days.
