Best seat in the house

When you can’t watch the big game in the luxury of your lounge at home, what do you do? . . . take the lounge to the game.

Ngati Porou East Coast fans enjoy the action from the back of a ute, complete with barbecue, couch and a couple of cold ones at the Sky Blues’ Heartland Championship clash with King Country at Hatea-a-rangi, Tokomaru Bay, on Saturday. This was not the only couch Gisborne Herald photographer Paul Rickard spotted.

The Coast lost 27-12 — a scoreline that did not reflect the opportunities they had.

They are sitting at the foot of the 12-team Heartland table while Poverty Bay are eighth after picking up a bonus point in their 36-31 loss to Wairarapa Bush at Masterton.
