THE field sets off on The Explorer Trail Ride, a 135.5-kilometre race and part of an Easter weekend of events that made up the inaugural Explorer series.

The trail ride took competitors on a weather-amended 80km journey to Whangara, back to Gisborne, then on to Waimata for a 55.5km mountain bike stage that ended outside Waiohika Estate.
