LOB A take time to get into stride

LYTTON Old Boys A started slowly but eventually got their game going and beat Gisborne Boys’ High School 5-0 in men’s hockey on the LJ Hooker Turf at Harry Barker Reserve last night.

Boys’ High took the game to LOB in the first quarter, hockey commentator Tony Scragg said.

“But LOB got their game going properly in the second quarter and started to play well,” he said.

Boys’ High coach Stu Hockey said they were pleased to keep the scoreline respectable.

“We were down a few players, which didn’t help, but LOB were definitely the dominant team.

“They play a good structured game, and that showed.”

Boys’ High will be in action again over three days from Monday in the Super 8 high school tournament at the Harry Barker Reserve, along with seven visiting school teams.

“We start with a match against Hamilton Boys’ High at 7.45am on Monday,” Hockey said.

In the other game last night, YMP B defeated LOB Masters 3-0.

“It was pretty tough going out there,” Masters player Scragg said.

“It was a hard game and YMP B played like a real team.

“It was the best I have seen them play for a while; they had a good passing game.

“The match shows just how competitive they will be as we head towards the business end of the senior men’s competition.”

Three more games will be played this afternoon, culminating in the game of the round, between men’s teams THC and YMP A, at 4.30pm.
