ALL Gisborne’s school-aged future rippers are invited to a surfing competition that aims to grow the sport in the district.

The annual Boardroom Summer Slam is on Sunday at north Makorori Beach.

The Boardroom has hosted the youth competition for the past decade with the aim to make surfing is as inclusive as possible, organiser Hayley Dalton said.

“It is a free event, for school pupils of all ages.

“The idea is to get more kids surfing in a fun competition with their friends.”

“There will be free lessons throughout the day and we have a wide range of boards available for them to use if they don’t have their own boards.”

Divisions include under-10, 10-11 year-olds, 12-13 year-olds and over-13.

All divisions are mixed with girls and boys.

The Boardroom Summer Slam is on this Sunday, December 10.

Registration is from 8am with the competition starting at 8.30am.
