Mike Hutton and Glen McKinnon did not know what had hit them.

One moment they were teeing off the first hole in the final of the Turanganui Trophy men’s pairs.

The next they were shaking hands on the 11th green.

In between, they were pummelled by a golfing hurricane in the form of Jack Glassford and Roger Kelso, who turned the match into a one-pair show.

The 9 and 7 mauling was over so quickly that they played the 12th and 13th so they didn’t get in too early.

The Turanganui Trophy is one of two subsidiary titles to the Te Kanawa Cup pairs.

The other subsidiary, the Fletcher Cup, was also decided on Sunday. Cliff Nepe and John Collier beat Evan Parkin and Horst Schreiber 2 and 1.
