Quarterfinal win books nationals berth for GBHS

Gisborne Boys’ High School Senior A team have qualified for the Basketball New Zealand AA National Championships.

Their 75-72 win against St. Peter’s School of Cambridge in yesterday’s Zone 2 Premiership quarterfinal at Rotorua secured their berth.

They led 29-21, 41-30 and 62-50 at each break, with Tyrese Tuwairua-Brown (37 points) and captain Max Scott (12) their top scorers.

St Peter’s fought back but Gisborne held their composure in a must-win game.

The Dwayne Tamatea-coached Gisborne lost 90-58 to Hamilton in the semifinals. Hamilton led 21-10, 39-20 and 67-39.

Scott scored 20 points and Sam Veitch 11.

Gisborne faced Rotorua Boys’ High in the playoff for third.
