LETTER

Re: UN vote won’t be in NZ’s best interests, Dec 29 letter.

Either Sally Cobb has not taken the trouble to educate herself about the origins of the Israel-Palestine conflict, or she is willfully misrepresenting the situation.

As one who has tried to get informed, I can thoroughly recommend Against Our Better Judgement by Alison Weir as a good primer and, for those who want to understand the full measure of the injustice perpetrated on the Palestinians, I cannot recommend too highly the exhaustively documented Obstacle to Peace by Jeremy Hammond.

Martin Hanson

I agree that this is not in New Zealand’s best interests; refer to my letter of May 22 (Principles at stake). The suggestion was from what Jesus said in Matthew 7 verse 5: First take the log out of our own eye so we can see to take the speck out of someone else’s eye. In other words, clean up our own backyard and put our own house in order instead of getting involved in someone else’s affairs. It would be wise for those in power to go to the Bible, where God says through the prophet Isaiah (ch 60) what the future of Israel and Jerusalem will be, and refrain from pressuring Israel to conform to their ways.
