Lots of planning but where’s the ‘doing’?

LETTER

Re: Shared desire to develop region, Jan 4 column.

We’ve heard of the Destination Development Plan (DDP) and the Regional Economic Development Plan (REDP) — devised by “the men in smoke-filled rooms”, to coin a phrase — and now Anne Tolley introduces us to the East Coast Regional Economic Potential Study (ECREPS).

She says, in one paragraph, “. . . we initiated the ECREPS back in 2014” and then, in the next paragraph, “I’m looking forward to seeing what the plan proposes”.

So who, exactly, is the “we” compiling the plan? It strikes me that there’s a lot of “planning” going on by a person or persons unknown and not a lot of “doing”.

I think I’d rather not know about the Capital Restructuring Activity Plan.

And don't forget the stalled Regional Digital Strategic Plan too.... Sigh....

With the amount of funding applied to the DDP, REDP, and the ECREPS the region could have paid for the reinstatement of the damaged rail line; and instead of the smoke and mirror outcomes of those plans/studies it would have an asset rather than the many what-ifs. The region needs doers not doodlers.

It seems that GDC has forgotten the Regional Digital Strategy, as the website entry has not been up-dated since 31 July 2015. What next, GDC? What needs to happen, Rus?
