Big thank you from Cancer Society

LETTER

I wish to extend our sincere thanks to all who attended and supported the Relay for Life over the weekend. Special thanks to the voluntary Relay for Life Committee for organising such a successful event. Just under 1000 people participated. The money raised will be utilised locally in support of the Gisborne East Coast Cancer Society’s research, education, advocacy, client service programmes and community education.

The outstanding support by all involved proves that our regional community is truly committed to the fight against cancer. I want to acknowledge the 153 cancer survivors and carers who participated in the opening lap and reception in their honour. They are the reason we continue the fight, because each year there can be more and more people living wonderful lives after a cancer diagnosis.

A special thanks to the many Relay For Life volunteers who worked to make this event a success. We also appreciate the generosity of our many business sponsors, especially our major supporters The Gisborne Herald, TurangaFM, Electrinet and Weatherell Transport. Combined you contributed over $75,000 to defray the cost of event delivery.

Finally, the Gisborne East Coast Cancer Society appreciates the support it receives. Remember it’s not too late to become involved. There are many opportunities to volunteer your time helping cancer patients and supporting delivery of our programmes. For more information please call us at 06 867 1795.
