Time to back CBD retail?

LETTER

With the new council chambers starting to take shape and the welcome installation of a new, young CEO; with Terry Sheldrake now CEO of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce; and with vast amounts of government money soon to be injected into programmes for the district, would it be opportune to enquire just what exciting possibilities may be in store for retailers wanting to set up shop in here? What sort of welcome and assistance to grow a business can they expect? Or will there continue to be strangulation by red tape of local government, as of old?

With the introduction of these two new CEOs and their new ideas, plans and dreams, would this not be the ideal time and opportunity to plan for a “new look” central business district offering encouragement and a helping hand to more retailers to set up shop, selling local and NZ goods, as well as an expansion of local industry? It is possible . . . and what a shot in the arm it would be for the local population as well. It’s high time for creative and positive change!
