Safety must come first

LETTER

I agree with Tree Lover, we should not be cutting down trees just for the sake of it. However, if the tree is not appropriate for its surrounding then that is a different issue.

You will have read in my letter that we did suggest replanting with a more appropriate tree. We are not against trees, we would like it replaced with a tree that will not endanger our members.

In our own backyard we have removed inappropriate trees and replaced them. I can assure you it does not take long for them to grow again.

We tried the “sweeping” option as this was the solution from the GDC. It did not work! The ground only remained clear of debris until the next gust of wind blew.

Yes, it would ideal to have somebody stand outside all day to rake up the conkers as they fall. That is not realistic, we are all volunteers who give up our time to help those with vision impairments. You talk about caring for the greater good, what about caring for the vision-impaired?
