Is drug use really the issue?

LETTER

It is great to read debate about how drug use should be treated in our society and hear what people think. Can we have a rational “dialectic” conversation as well?

It might also be worthwhile considering the reasons that sit behind why people in our community feel the need to “self medicate” more than people in other places, both in New Zealand and overseas, when they are not suffering from a particular physical ailment.

What does that say about us? Is drug use really the issue? I invite readers to read Chasing the Scream: The First and Last Days of the War on Drugs and then let’s start really talking.
