Left-wing parties anti-God

ANTI-GOD: This coprrespondent writes that he doesn't want left-wing, socialist, communist, anti-God parties in New Zealand, and will accordingly vote National.

LETTER

There are a lot of political comings and goings at the moment. Labour and the Greens will tax the pants off us. Do we want that? Absolutely not!

Right-wing parties have been strongly influenced by Christian values. That worked very well, until they started moving away from that base.

Labour used to have a Christian base, but has drifted too far to the left, so now it has lost direction. Under Helen Clark, Labour led New Zealand to the nanny mentality. Left-wing parties tend to go for control and dictatorship, like the majority of communist parties (which are also anti-God).

I went to a National Party meeting a while ago and I heard Anne Tolley speaking. There was nothing that she said that rang alarm bells. I thought she was very good.

I would encourage all Christians to vote for the right-wing National party. It’s not perfect, but it’s better than the rest!

But don’t worry Kiwis, she’ll be right! (It’s good to stick to the right. We don’t want left-wing, socialist, communist, anti-God parties in New Zealand).

I very much doubt that Jesus would vote National. A party whose philosophy embraces personal gain and demonising of society's poorest, coupled with a strong "I've got mine, the rest of you can whistle" ethos is hardly what rational observers would see as Christian in any way. Where are the inclusive values, the caring for those who cannot help themselves, the respect for our natural environment - these are the things I would expect real Christians to vote for. The more left-wing parties are not perfect either, but are a vast improvement on the sneering selfishness of National.

Please tell me what a Christian is . . .

It sounds like the nanny state is well and truly dead under National yet there are those in our society who need a hand up.
Surely the biggest moral issues of our time for those with good Christian values are inequality, poverty and homelessness. Many Christians would see these as issues which need to be sorted in our beautiful once-first-world country.
Sadly, our current National government has promoted policy which has made the lives of many in this position so much worse. They seem to have forgotten about a large group of people who cannot thrive in such an environment.
I don't want to live in a country which doesn't seem to care, and the only way to fix it is to change our government.

Poor David, your theology is as ill-informed and misguided as your politics.

Labour includes everyone, but not if you're a Christian. Every other religion is fine but not Christianity. Hey, why don't we adopt sharia law while we are at it. I don't want my women's rights any more. Let's just make it legal to rape while we are at it. Oh and homosexuality should be illegal. But Christianity is bad right?
