GDC profligacy by stealth?

LETTER

Re: Is Lawson theatre broken? October 7 letter.

So, if the Lawson Field Theatre is as dangerous as the old council building, why wasn’t that recognised before now and its replacement included in the current rebuilding on this site?

No doubt GHL will pay for it for us, you can’t turn your nose up at another free building.

While the council is at it, why not go the whole hog and replace the hideous and no doubt equally dangerous Civil Defence building? Perhaps this project is waiting in the wings.

I suppose a total rebuild bill of $20 million was regarded as too big a pill for ratepayers to swallow at the time. Profligacy by stealth?
