Let’s restrict fireworks

LETTER

Re: Beach fire restriction lifted, call for common sense — November 2 story.

When is the country going to ban fireworks sales and restrict it to public displays only? I thought there was a motion in Parliament in regards to this.

Today people choose to be ignorant of the effects to property, animals and people, let alone the monetary cost to both government and private individuals. Now, where was the petition to Parliament again?

Whilst we do not mind families purchasing fireworks early, we do not condone them being let off four nights in advance. Our animals and us were quite traumatised last night when someone lit some of their fireworks at around 9pm. It’s not on. Maybe fireworks should be sold the day before, not four days ahead.

Do you agree that ratepayers in the city and on the Flats should subsidise some of the spending on rural roads in the district?
