I sure hope we are smoke-free by 2025 — our lungs do not need this drug. Smoking is causing 5000 deaths a year in NZ and costing all of us thousands of dollars to look after people with cancer. I am one of these people.

David Hemsley needs to put his hope into being an amphetamine-free country by 2025. Research shows that it costs the DHBs $230 million annually.
Overall, the social cost of drug use is estimated at NZ$33,800 per year per dependent user, and NZ$2300 per year per casual user. Add to that the crime rate that rises to enable drug users to get funds to buy their drugs, and also the financial, emotional and stress caused to the families and friends effected. Yes smoking does kill, but drugs are a far worse problem.
