Claimed ‘offer’ doubted

LETTER

Re: Poverty suits takers, not creators — December 30 column.

Greetings Chris, and all the best for 2018.

You begin your Gisborne Herald column with the statement: “A few years ago, a couple of local politicians made an extraordinary offer. Come to Hawke’s Bay and invest, they said, for we have low wages and conditions.”

For this to have any academic and intellectual integrity you must name the “local politicians”, especially as they are public figures, and identify the statement — all the more so as it is the basis of your thesis that follows.

Frankly I doubt that one, let alone two, have stated such a thing, for it is fundamentally untrue and reflects badly on Hawke’s Bay business people. Prove me wrong.
