It’s all about incentives . . .

LETTER

Re: What right? Jan 3 letter.

This whinge about “wealthy” electric vehicle owners and their exemption from road user charges borders on the pathetic.

Point 1, the temporary exemption is to encourage the adoption of the electric vehicle, which will make a significant contribution to improving the environment. This is one of those technological improvements that will rapidly flourish as greater numbers bring down the cost of production and the number of charging stations increases.

Point 2, this is the way it is, some people have more than others — money, cars, friends or whatever. Some people will always look at what others have and whine.

This is not a communist society, it was built in this manner and that’s how it grows. Can you imagine if there was no incentive to improve one’s position in society because the rules said we could all have the same regardless of how hard we worked? How many would go the extra mile?
