Parking meters need update

LETTER

Gisborne District Council needs to update its parking meters to close them off on public holidays, Sundays and half days on Saturdays.

I feel the huge number of visitors who are unaware of our regulations are being ripped off. The locals can only warn a few of them.

So what say you GDC?

Tuarangi (Munch) Williams

Footnote response from GDC director of environmental services and protection Nick Zaman:

The pay-and-display machines will not accept money before 7am or after 5pm, Saturdays after 1pm, and all day on Sundays or public holidays.

The stand-alone meters do not have that technology and are unable to be deactivated. Each stand-alone meter has a sticker on it stating when payment is required with appropriate times.

We urge people who are not sure, to read this information. This is the same everywhere in New Zealand where these parking meters are used.

Do you think Gladstone Road Bridge should have its concrete parapet walls converted to steel railings on one or both of its sides as part of the upgrade and widening under way?
