LETTER

Last Saturday morning, Farmers’ Market: family, friends, neighbours and others catching up over coffee and shopping. Grandson Leo (4) complaining of a sore stomach is the only matter of concern.

Fast forward just a few hours and he’s in emergency surgery, a burst appendix being dealt with fast and efficiently.

On behalf of mum and dad, Anna and Mat Wakelin, and supportive big brother Henry (7), a huge thanks to everyone involved in this sudden turn of events, especially the surgeon and all the Gisborne Hospital team who simply couldn’t have done better. A special acknowledgement to the whanau (Wakelins, Recters mostly) who were already busy with a family wedding.

I’m astounded at the number of people who have since asked after Leo, having heard one way or another. This community support proves again I made the correct decision to move permanently to Gisborne last year.

Do you agree that ratepayers in the city and on the Flats should subsidise some of the spending on rural roads in the district?
