Stop your whining boaties

LETTER

I am quite sure that over 90 percent of ratepayers will agree with me when I strongly disagree with the council spending any of our rates on providing parks for boat trailers at the port.

When Tatapouri Fishing Club shifted into town they did not even provide a carpark for the bar patrons, let alone 200 parks for 100 boat trailers plus the towing vehicle. Where on earth do the boaties think the council is going to find a hectare of open space for this boat park?

To say the club was short-sighted in shifting to a boat ramp in the centre of town, 200 metres from the main street, is a gross understatement. The parking problem was obvious from the start.

So please don’t go whining to the council to fix your self-inflicted problem.

Mmmmm . . . parks for boat trailers at a port - what a unique concept. Was the boat ramp installed when the club moved to town, or was it already there prior?

Totally agree with you Graham, boaties are a laugh. They have these boats that cost more than many people's homes and they want to dominate the river and stop children jumping off bridges. Why on earth don't they build a ramp at Waikanae Stream? With boats like they have I'm sure they can afford to install a new ramp, and then they can park their vehicles at the railway yard. They're annoying people really.
PS I don't begrudge them having these flash boats, in fact I admire them. But river domination? Really?

In reply to Graham Gibson's comment, the council would have given the OK to put the boat ramp where it is so they should have thought about trailer parking as well. Where did they think all the trailers were going to go? Hang them on sky hooks? No forward planning by the council as usual. Gisborne boaties are not whining to the council, they are only telling them how it is. It's a stuff up!

The only complaining I've seen is about kids at the boat ramp . . . and I'm sure you'd be one of the first to complain when a kid is injured or harmed after jumping in front or behind a boat trying to pull to the ramp.
