New leaders required

LETTER

Choose carefully! Mankind has a history of poor leadership. We often laud the more infamous leaders (I won’t bother naming them). Little credit, however, is given to the more temperate leaders who have not succumbed to wanton warfare, greed and a general disregard for humanity.

The world urgently needs leaders who: (1) are in no haste to go to war; (2) have empathy for the impoverished, and wish to improve their lot; (3) promote contraception to address the overpopulation of our planet, which is taxing our limited resources, causing pollution etc; (4) redirect weapons’ monies for health — cancer research, disease elimination and the general welfare of mankind.

Having the wisdom to know that these are the real issues and goals for humanity is a major step towards good leadership.

Please, let us all choose leaders more carefully in future, so we don’t keep repeating the same mistakes which we should have learnt from in the past.

Do you think Gladstone Road Bridge should have its concrete parapet walls converted to steel railings on one or both of its sides as part of the upgrade and widening under way?
