Solutions at top of cliff

LETTER

While reading the opinion article in Friday night’s paper (Abortion a woman’s choice alone), I came to the conclusion that abortion has become the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff.

These days there are procedures that could be made available to women before they become sexually active. Conception can now be prevented or held off till a woman decides to have a family. It also can be curtailed when a woman feels overwhelmed by the responsibility that comes with children. As far as I am aware, having these procedures does not detract from enjoying sexually activities. But they take the responsibility of another’s life off the woman’s hands. The woman is still in control of her own body as well.

Where an accident occurs, there are still loving people who would love to adopt a child.

I agree with your sentiments but struggle to see how becoming pregnant after engaging in sexual intercourse can possibly be described as an "accident".

Perhaps the OP could have used the word "mishap" instead of accident. Condoms do fail during intercourse, and, least it should not be forgotten that no form of contraception is entirely 100% security.

Re adoption: it is known that unfortunately many children put up for adoption do not find willing permanent homes; for many reasons which I will not go into here but they are well known to all those in involved. It should also not be forgotten that when fostered a child who has a history of being cared for by multiple well-meaning foster parents is often a child that goes on to have a history of mental instability.
