Simply redirect Nats’ tax hikes

LETTER

The regional fuel tax has raised its ugly head with our council registering its interest in this tariff, according to TV3 news.

The former National government hiked fuel taxes to raise more money for Auckland and its so-called Roads of National Significance.

To save the rest of the country from paying out more on regional fuel taxes, why does the Government simply not redirect the funds from National’s fuel tax increases and give all those proceeds to each affected area of our country?

Aucklanders’ complaints over their regional fuel tax annoys me utterly. They seem to selectively forget that they have received hundreds of millions of dollars from the rest of New Zealand. Please, don’t throw your toys out of the cot, just “suck it up”.
