Sorry, no pat on the back from me

LETTER

Re: Think before you whinge, July 3 letter.

Smiley, your use of the word “whinge” leads me to question your attitude. Some of the people who visit public service offices are under extreme pressure and stress. Some are single parents wondering how they are going to feed and clothe their children, or pay the electricity bill, which in itself is a challenge.

You say you see at least 100 clients (they aren’t customers) per day.

Let us look at say, an eight-hour day, that is 480 minutes and 4.8 minutes average per client.

I would be more than a little cranky if I went into a government office for assistance and found I had 4.8 minutes to state my case, get an answer, or not, and then get sent on my way.

I would suggest that you think before making such ridiculous statements. Of course, we could then go on to the topic of wages, allowances, over-time and any other payments you pick up, but we won’t because I don’t have that information.

Sorry I can’t pat you on the back either for your attitude or your empathy towards people attending your office.
