Still dumping plastic . . .

LETTER

I don’t believe Bob Hughes cares about the environment and local by-laws as much as he makes out.

A little while ago as I was sitting in my vehicle in Palmerston Road, Bob Hughes came pedalling along on a three-wheel tricycle with two dogs. He parked outside the City Choice dairy and headed towards it. In his hand he had a yellow supermarket-style plastic bag, which he dumped into a District Council rubbish bin clearly marked “No Household Rubbish”.

I was curious, so when Bob pedalled away I checked what was in it. It was full of dog poo.

So here was Bob Hughes, who has ranted on about saving the planet and various righteous tripe, blatantly disregarding his own so-called beliefs. Not walking the walk there Bob.

Terry Creswell doesn?t think I care about the environment and local by-laws . . .
All this because he spotted me disposing of a yellow supermarket-style plastic bag, containing doggy do in a Palmerston Rd rubbish bin
He went to pains to explain the District Council rubbish bin was clearly marked ?No Household Rubbish?. Yet both bag and contents I had thrown had been picked up off the street.
Unwittingly Terry has included me amongst the many other civic-minded citizens that do likewise, picking up the litter off our streets.
One of the advantages of cycling or walking is that street rubbish is easy to spot.
It is not uncommon for me to pick up the odd bit as well as our doggy doos ? especially when aboard a three-wheeler.
I ask, where is the righteous tripe, blatantly disregarding own so-called beliefs or even the breaking of district by-laws in my action?

Tsk Tsk Big Brother is alive and well - if this is the worst Bob does I'm not too worried. He may have picked the bag up off the road. At least he did not leave the mess on the road, unlike many others.

It seems odd that the editor would publish a defamatory letter even though a light-hearted one about a person. I suspect the letter was published with Bob Hughes' permission so he had right of reply. The public should be aware of the legal issue.

Caught red handed Mr Hughes, just apologise and look big.

Lloyd. It's OK. After nearly 10 years, I think the editor knows my mind pretty well.
We were out early and out of contact for most of the day - and to me Terry's rant didn't warrant a footnote anyway.
Incidentlly, there was an email from the editor awaiting in my inbox when I eventually got back.
I think most will see from the original and my response to it that I was never threatened anyway.
Thanks for your concern and support Lloyd.

Do you think Gladstone Road Bridge should have its concrete parapet walls converted to steel railings on one or both of its sides as part of the upgrade and widening under way?
