Better to spend that here?

LETTER

Re: How much spent on sister cities? August 31 letter.

Earlier this year I went to Gisborne, our sister city near Melbourne, and people there who I spoke to did not know of our relationship.

So, the Mayor advises that $15,000 of ratepayers’ money is provided to the Sister Cities Committee each year.

Wouldn’t this $15,000 be better spent on our people, our kids, stopping wastewater going into our rivers?

It could be used to help those who sit outside the Police Station, or to fund work schemes such as gathering firewood for our elderly.

It is great that 100 people from Mahina, Tahiti will be visiting here next year. They are truly welcome, as are the many other visitors we host from around New Zealand and the world, such as the thousands who come for R&V.

Let’s put our ratepayers’ money into Poverty Bay.
