I couldn’t believe it, on the first day of Maori Language Week the back-page story leading the “Hakinakina” starts with capital letters WANGANUI. Come on, that’s embarrassing. Poor effort.

Call us traditionalists but accuracy is a bedrock of journalism and the Wanganui Rugby Football Union has not changed the spelling of its name. As of December 2012, both Wanganui and Whanganui are recognised as official names of the city. Ed
