Roundabout study needed

LETTER

Can someone please advise when there’s to be more education related to use of roundabouts in Gisborne? There are still many drivers who don’t have a clue what to do — eg, indicating all over the place, waiting for vehicles on the other side to make moves, and cutting across lanes, as a few examples. I am sure this is the reason for massive traffic blocks at school and work times twice a day. As for stop signs — what stop signs? No one bothers to adhere to those!

What!? You sure? Everything a driver needs to know is in the Highway Code.
Massive traffic blocks? Massive exaggeration.

Most of the traffic problems in Gisborne are caused by parents dropping off and picking up their children from school. Why they can't walk or cycle to school beats me. It is a wonder that there are very few casualties around schools, especially at the end of the day. The worst area is De Lautour/ Graham Road/ Wainui Road.
I have written to one of the local schools about the problem, but even though they have spoken to the council, nothing seems to have been done.

As to roundabouts, even truck drivers are still using the old indicator system and the rule at roundabouts for that was changed at least 10 or 12 years ago!

However, large trucks and buses do need to straddle both lanes sometimes to negotiate a roundabout and there are signs to indicate this.
