Captain’s log

LETTER

A lieutenant RN, one J. Cook

Sailed out to En Zed, for a look

He came ashore, so they say

Called it Poverty Bay

As inscribed in his famous log

book

It is nearly two fifty years past

Honouring Cook,

leaves some folks aghast

He is, now, I fear bobbing round

at the rear

For some, he is history at last

The “sester”, is but a short year

Will the Endeavour model(s) ever

appear?

Surely part of the tale

Be it paddle or sail

Of this country, we all hold so dear.

We don't need those Endeavour replicas. I always thought they were a waste of time and money, they weren't aesthetic at all, no significance to me whatsoever.

Your personal view Mr Kaa. You appreciate others may feel differently.

I would rather see a fantastic Waka Taua like the one that was hewn from a tree near Wairoa and is now in the Auckland War Memorial Museum. Let's get one of those here! Amazing. Have you all seen that one? It is incredibly beautiful. We have so many talented carvers here who could make a gorgeous one for us.
