Lovely, heartfelt gesture

LETTER

As part of our organisation’s approach to highlight Mental Health Awareness Week, we based ourselves at the Lytton West shops on Monday with intentions to visit other community centres throughout the week, to bring this important message to the public.

May I acknowledge the thoughtfulness of the PB Wairoa Federation Women’s Institute when sitting at a table to enjoy the sunny day and a cuppa, that on this table was an arrangement of flowers with a note that read: “I’m a lonely bouquet. Please take me home” and I thought what a lovely gesture.

It reminded me of the purpose we were there for, in that there are a lot of people in our community who, in their times of distress and anxiety, feel so lonely, and how we as family and close friends only need to reach out to offer some comfort.

And so that is the simple message regarding mental health — we all have a responsibility.

Again, thank you PB Wairoa Federation Women’s Institute for your simplistic but heartfelt message.
