Doing bridge wall their way

LETTER

I drove over the Gladstone Road Bridge earlier in the week and the first thing that came to mind is that we must have a Frank Sinatra aficionado out there.

Previously, numerous of us had written to your paper, and many more had telephoned the council, requesting that the reconstruction of the Gladstone Road Bridge include see-through railings so the beauty of the river could be appreciated by all passing over it. I thought we had been appeased when it was declared that only a small section of concrete balustrade would be entertained at each end of the bridge.

Your photo on the front page of last night’s paper says it all: ratepayers voiced their opinion, they were apparently heard, but thanks, “I’ll Do It My Way”.
