Flash HQ signalled trouble

LETTER

A friend owns a large contracting business in Auckland. When I visited he was operating out of an upstairs addition to a 6m x 6m custom-built garage, employing almost 50 people. The business has easily doubled in size since then.

What he told me was that when organisations start building themselves flash sets of offices, they are in trouble. So when I saw the flash new Tuhoe HQ going up at Taneatua, I couldn’t help but reflect that mostly it was for the aggrandisement of self-important egos to sit around the Tuhoe board table. No surprise then that we have the “new Waikaremoana management attitude” — “people better fit in with us, because things have changed”.

In short, the world walks out of step with Tuhoe. Well, good luck to all concerned.
