LETTER

Re: Scant regard, April 1 letter.

By his words John himself has shown scant regard of reality. The truth is bound to be incoherent to him.

America beats China, India and all other highly populated countries hands down on population-based greenhouse gas emissions.

I repeat. Donald Trump’s actions, by going against the rest of the world removing his super-high greenhouse gas-emitting country from the Paris climate commitment, could be the tipping point to civilisation’s end.

Your stats are idiotic, what has per capita emissions got to do with anything? In 2015 China emitted 9040.74 million metric tons of CO2, the USA emitted 4997.50 million metric tons of CO2. Which figure is larger and therefore more damaging?
There are lies, damn lies and statistics. To this we can now add Bob Hughes' lies.

John accuses me of idiotic stats and lies and then quotes China emitted 9040.74 million metric tons while the US emitted only 4997.50 million metric tons of CO2.
Let?s match those figures up against population figures of China, near 1.5 billion, and the US?s less than a third of a billion inhabitants.
His figures have actually confirmed that America beats China, India and all other highly-populated countries hands down on population-based greenhouse gas emissions.
John?s accusations of idiotic stats and Bob Hughes? lies has backfired big-time.
He has once again strengthened my message. Again, as a super-high greenhouse gas-emitting country, President Trump should never have withdrawn his US from the Paris climate agreement.

Bob, do you think the great Mohammed gate keeper of the hole in the sky gives a rudimentary toss where he/she/it sources the nasties? It's total volume that apparently does the damage. Speaking of which, and as the master statistician, tell us all what New Zealand's net emission in tonnes is of C02. I don't what you to tell us the gross. Break it down so there is a credit for all the good stuff produced from our indigenous forests, plantation trees, trees in parks, orchards and all our backyard plantings.

Bob Hughes - 20 days ago
Gordon is right, it is indeed the total volume of emissions that counts.
Thereby statistically the average New Zealander contributes far more to the total volume of GHGs than individuals in most other countries, including China.
I say that makes us as individuals even more guilty of impacting on climate change than those in most countries.
I add, nor are we in our far-off corner exempt from the nasty effects.

Bob, another nonsensical reply by you. Please answer my question.

Bob Hughes - 20 days ago
Mr Webb's accusation and plea for answers are themselves nonsensical, also irrelevant and irreverent. I suggest Gordon read "Measures of culpability" in today's edition, including my reply to John's comment on the same theme.

Do you think more or less of Jacinda Ardern after the Prime Minister ruled out a capital gains tax under her leadership?
