Lower speed works for me

LETTER

Re: On new SH35 limit proposal, April 6 letters.

Sorry, I disagree Bernie Kaa. We leave home earlier automatically — it’s just common sense, to contend with the extra road works and logging trucks.

I have trialled the suggested reduced speed limit over the past few weeks and it works for me.

It’s really a safety issue for those residents. I notice a lot of them crossing the road, or walking along the footpath.

Philly straight outta Te Araroa, how often do you travel to Gisborne? You are one outta how many others on the Coast?
I travel to Gisborne for work five days a week between 5.30am and return home at 4pm most times, or 1.30pm to 12 midnight back home, and have always travelled with logging trucks going to Gisborne and returning back to the Coast. I have never had any issues with travelling with logging trucks on the road. Common sense when travelling on the road is to drive with care and to the conditions of the road. We all have safety issues on the road - our children have to walk along the road to school with no footpath, sometimes having to walk in the drain to stay clear of heavy traffic. Compare that to Okitu and Wainui Road where they have mile-long footpaths and walkways and 100m-plus views of who is coming and going along the road. I know, I travel that road all the time.
