Where born irrelevant

LETTER

Oh dear Meredith. One of the reasons for her standing is that people can vote for a local woman born and raised in Gisborne.

I trust that the elections for Mayor and councillors will not be about where a candidate was born or went to school. I want a candidate to have ability and attributes, and if she or he meet that test I do not care where she or he was born.

I like the words of our Prime Minister: We are all one here. That should be our motto, whether at national or local level. Campaign with those words in mind and I will be happy.

I would welcome a woman mayor and a woman deputy mayor. In my opinion both women are intelligent, passionate, committed and formidable. I look forward to either of them in first and second position. Good luck Wahine Toa!

I was born and raised here too but that doesn't mean I'm good for the job. It's "can you do the job or are you right for the person".
