Whitby mayor and council invited to Tuia250 events

LETTER

Re: And Whitby? May 22 letter by GR Webb.

Whitby is a twin town of Gisborne. In New Zealand we call them sister cities.

We have invited the mayor and their council to come to Gisborne for the Tuia250 events, sending out the invitation about one month ago. We are waiting for RSVPs.

Councillor Wilson, who is coincidentally holidaying in Whitby, will also deliver a letter from me. It says that we welcome Whitby council to come to Gisborne for the Tuia250 events, the Tairawhiti Arts Festival October 4-11, celebrating 1000 years of waka, Pacific peoples voyaging, October 8 first meeting of Maori and Lt Cook, October 10 a reunion of Tupaea descendants and Te Aitanga a Hauiti.

We have also invited our other sister cities, of Japan, China, Spain, USA, Tahiti.

I wish to acknowledge Te Ha for all the work they have done in organising the Tuia250 with the Ministry of Culture and Heritage.

Funnily enough I know the mayor of Whitby, I'm a Tyke.
I'll be emailing him asap to advise him to give this hijacked event a miss, not worth the CO2 emissions to attend, we are wannabe greenies after all.
What the flip has this got to do with Japan, China, Spain, USA and Tahiti?
I do know a bloke who could arrange for a hologram of Queen Victoria to attend, wouldn't cost much and would be so much more appropriate.
When did NZ Post become so incompetent that it can no longer be trusted to deliver a letter to the UK?
