Special place on Mata-Au

LETTER

Re: Easy rider, pure gold — June 29 travel story.

Quite thrilled to note the writer enjoyed the time spent in Beaumont and just wanted to add a wee note on Beaumont for readers.

We who reside there know Beaumont to be beautiful, with the Mata-Au or Clutha River running right through the middle, coupled with fabulous views of the valley, looking towards the mountains. This makes it a special place to stop and recharge.

What we class as the Beaumont boundaries hold approximately 61 permanent residents. These figures don’t include occupants of the six holiday homes, three dairy cottages or those family members who are living away at the time of writing.

Although small, opportunities abound in our little hamlet to allow one to stop and relax, and it is indeed a wonderful slice of untouched NZ paradise that we love very much. Kind of like an iceberg, there’s always a lot more to it than what one sees.
