Playing into Trump’s hands

LETTER

I can’t wait for the 2020 US general election, it’s going to be a doozy, with Trump winning his second term. If you thought Hillary Rob’em Clinton was crazy, two of the three leading Democrat nominees take the cake. Elizabeth Warren wants to decriminalise illegal border crossings, thereby letting into the US every criminal from south of the border, and Bernie Sanders wants to socialise healthcare, which would cost the US trillions of dollars a year and lead to the closure of hundreds of hospitals around the country. The average American voter would have watched this debate and will be scared out of their wits at the possibility of one of these far-left progressive socialists being their next President.

Bernie looks like your grumpy uncle, yelling and waving his arms around, and Elizabeth looks like that sour librarian you had at high school. I don’t think either are going to resonate with the populace, and Trump will increase his electoral college votes.

Why do Yankee expats think that anyone here cares?

In response to A. Abbott, the single-payer medical system Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is promoting would be very similar to ours.

I have never considered our medical system to be "socialist" or "socialised" but I do believe it much superior to what the Americans have. Forty-four million people in the US cannot afford medical insurance, nor have the security of a government-funded health system. https://www.pbs.org/healthcarecrisis/uninsured.html

As for the cost, it is expected that the outgoings of many people would be substantially lowered due to no longer having the need to buy exhorbitant profit-driven medical insurance.

Here's a story about the cost of insulin in the US. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/aug/01/us-healthcare-insulin-diabetes-jordan-williams

A. Abbott may consider Sanders and Warren to be loonies, but they are putting life into their campaigns, and it is telling that he chooses to comment about them rather than the other lifeless Democratic candidates.

Never mind, at least the US has an electric car in space.
