Conservation Week enthusiasts contribute to biodiversity

Conservation Week events this week included two hours of dune planting at Waikanae Beach, where members of the public were invited to dig in and add to the native grasses on the foreshore.

Charlotte Knight and Juliette Gottlieb seemed happy to be doing their bit on a cloudless Tuesday afternoon. Other events during the week included a workshop on building your own weta box, at the EIT Rural Studies unit in Stout Street, a lecture on birds of the region, with Malcolm Rutherford and the very popular Gray’s Bush night tour with Sam Gibson and Mr Rutherford.

The week ends tomorrow, with  a Waingake Hīkoi, where people will join members of the Waingake Ngahere Ora team and mana whenua to learn more about the project protecting and restoring the indigenous landscape at Waingake.
