Couples to trip the light fantastic for Life Education

Eleven local couples are hard at work transforming themselves into Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire for what is being described as “one of the hottest fundraisers in town”.

Dancing For Life Education Gisborne was launched at Portside Hotel this week at a function to reveal the participating pairs.

“These local community heroes mostly have no previous dance experience and have sacrificed their personal time, training to perfect their performances,” organisers said in a statement.

“This event is one of Gisborne’s hottest fundraisers, allowing our guests to get dressed up and ready for a show to remember.”

The couples will be supported by “fantastic” live entertainment, silent and live auctions, light food and beverages.

The event, being held at the War Memorial Theatre (1.30pm matinee and 7pm evening shows) on Saturday, July 27, is a fundraiser for Life Education Trust Inc Gisborne, East Coast and Wairoa — a charity that provides health and wellbeing education for New Zealand children and young people.

“Our show would not take place without the generous support of all our local sponsors, all with a view to helping inspire tamariki and rangatahi to make positive choices, with our educator and Harold (the giraffe) working in a large region, including Tairawhiti/East Coast, Gisborne city, Wairoa and surrounding rural areas.”

● Tickets for the fundraiser are available through Ticketek and at Gisborne iSite Visitor Information Centre in Grey St.
