Emergency services were called to a crash in MacDonald Road near Juken NZ last night in which a vehicle struck a concrete power pole. But when they arrived at the scene, no one was with the station wagon. “It was the third time we’ve been to a crash at that location involving a power pole,” a senior firefighter said. “The power lines remained suspended in the air.” The crash, which happened at around 6.45pm, affected the city’s hot water signal plant and hot water supply. It was expected to be back to normal by 4pm today. The pole was replaced and 20 electricity customers were without power while that was done.
