A wooden train engine has been stationed in the Waikanae Beach playground for the summer.
The custom play piece was created by Steph and Ben Millward from Cut Above Sawmilling and Furniture.
The council says the playground item will be a temporary one until other playground equipment can be reinstalled.
Meantime, the Makorori Headland Tracks will partially open to the public again from today. Fences and signage remain in some areas to indicate where people still need to take caution.
