Moonrise departure

The unofficial first day of spring dawned cold and clear yesterday morning, and the second full moon of August was still a fine sight as AirNZ flight No 8160 took off at 6.15am, bound for Auckland.

Photographers gathered at Wainui Beach to catch the moon rising over the eastern horizon about 12 hours earlier, but some last-minute low cloud rolled in preventing the perfect shot.
